Are one of the oldest and most time tested methods of fastening. In general, riveting involves placing the shank of the rivet through a hole in two or more materials. The protruding end of this shank is then "cinched" or closed so that the shank cannot be removed and the materials cannot be separated easily.

Used to join dissimilar materials of various thickness.
